Thank you for visiting the Elkader Fitness Inc. website.  Elkader Fitness Inc. is a non-profit fitness center. We are  located at 305 High St. in Elkader, IA.  Elkader Fitness Inc. was developed with community support, labor and donations to provide an area for healthful exercise.  It features a gym floor, weight room and cardio area.

Elkader Fitness Inc.’s mission is: To provide recreational, social and educational enrichment opportunities through quality programs and services at a reasonable cost to members and the community.

Use of Elkader Fitness is available with an annual membership or with a daily visitor’s fee. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Members & Visitors are given a keycode for the entry security system. Please contact the following if you need a code to use the Fitness Center:

Volunteer to Trail Count

Clayton County Trail Count

Volunteers Needed

 

The Clayton County Conservation Board is seeking volunteers to assist with conducting a trail usage count.  The plan is develop a list of volunteer who could work a two hour shift.  Hopefully we will have enough help for the majority of the volunteers to only work one shift.

The county wide trail user count will be conducted the week of Saturday May 10- Saturday May 17.  We will be conducting two days of trail counting over this week long period.  One count will be Saturday May 10 and weekday count will be Thursday May 15.  The times will be from 6 am to 8 pm on both days.

We are looking for volunteers from across the county and counts will be conducted in the Elkader area, Guttenberg area, Strawberry Point area, Monona area and McGregor/Marquette area.

This is part of the five-county regional effort to begin to gather trail usage numbers from throughout the region.  All trail counts in the five-county region will be conducted within this time frame.  A count will be conducted three times this year, in May, July and September.  We would like to do this every year or every other year to see usage and trends.

Scheduled Maintenance

On April 9th we will be having equipment maintenance performed in the morning. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause for your workout.

Please remember CLEAN shoes are required in our fitness center. This prevents the small rocks and dirt from getting into the belts, gears, etc of our machines and causing equipment failure. Help keep our center clean and machines running like new. It is very expensive to have these machines fixed.

Mark your calendars for the 26th Annual Shed Your Threads 5K/10K run sponsored by Elkader Fitness July 25th. Yes the run has been moved to Friday night of Sweet Corn Days. We also have Trekman Racing this year helping. There will be chip timing, moisture wick shirts, and fireworks!!

Fee: Members cost $10 for as many classes as you wish; Non-members $40 per class, $55 for two classes or more
PLEASE NOTE: You will need both INDOOR AND OUTDOOR shoes for some of these workouts. Outdoors shoes cannot be worn inside after we are outside. Thank you for respecting this decision, we know that it is a hassle to bring 2 pair of shoes.

This road/trail race is a 5k/10k through historic downtown Elkader and along the Pony Hollow Trail which runs parallel to the beautiful Turkey River and Robert’s Creek. We have decided to move the race to Friday night. This will mean runners can enjoy the music and fireworks in downtown Elkader afterwards

Exciting news! We are also adding chip timing by Trekman Racing. Pre-registration here,on our website will begin shortly. Early bird pricing will be available at that time. Participants can also register the day of race.
Registration is at 5:30 PM
Race Time is 6:30 PM at the corner of Main and Boardman on the south side of Elkader.

Basic Self Defense

TIME: 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

LOCATION: Elkader Fitness Center

INSTRUCTOR: Investigator Brent Ostrander, an eleven year law enforcement officer currently with the Clayton County Sheriff’s. Ostrander is the county’s lead defensive tactics instructor with additional instructor certifications in ASP expandable baton, OC spray, handcuffing, and tactical fitness.

COST: $50

This eight-week program designed for women and men ages 16 and older will provide you with the knowledge to:

• Build situational awareness
• Build confidence
• Learn avoidance, escape, and counter attack techniques
• Perform basic defense moves

The purpose of this class is to instill a WINNING mindset preparing participants for violent encounters. We want to enable you to identify potential threats while maintaining a mind set to confidently control a situation and safely get away!

This is a physical class and participants will be expected to perform the techniques. Class participants must bring an open mind and positive attitude to each class.
Dress in appropriate work out attire.

Elkader Fitness Updates

Picture1Just a few reminders for all of you using the fitness center:

1. Wear clean shoes while using the facility. There are lockers to keep your items in.The fitness center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

2. Put away equipment after you have finished using it, especially in the weight area.

3. No children are allowed in the center without parent supervision if they are under 16 years of age. Also, if you do not have a family membership children should not be on the equipment at all.
